Range Mental Health Center (RMHC), a private not-for-profit health care organization and Rule 29 mental health clinic. The Range Mental Health Center was the first rural community mental health center in the United States and the first in Minnesota to provide services developed specifically for persons with serious and persistent mental illness. The Center, begun in 1961, was the 16th federally designated community mental health center in the nation and the first in Minnesota. Mental Health services are provided each year to over 7,000 adults, children & families. RMHC currently employs 242 individuals providing inpatient psychiatric treatment, outpatient psychiatric treatment, Community Support Services, Drug & Alcohol Detoxification, Chemical Dependency Inpatient and Outpatient Treatment, Three Adult Foster Care Homes, Older Adult Programs, Two Drop-In Centers, Adult, Youth & Chronic Homeless Programs, Children’s Community and School Based Mental Health Programs. In addition RMHC recently purchased an Intensive Residential Treatment Facility where individuals can stay up to ninety days to prepare for community based living. RMHC owns a twenty-seven unit apartment building in Hibbing,  which provides safe, affordable housing  for individuals experiencing homelessness, chronic homeless, and individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
